Larson is comparable in level to Verstappen, Kyle`s teammate in IndyCar is sure.
Indycar driver Alexander Rossi, who competed in Formula 1 with future three-time world champion Max Verstappen, believes his temporary Arrow McLaren teammate Kyle Larson is among the strongest drivers in the world.
Larson is the NASCAR Cup regular season leader this season, the 2021 series champion and the 2015 24 Hours of Daytona winner. Next Sunday`s Indianapolis 500 will be Kyle`s IndyCar debut, and he qualified in fifth speed. That same day, Larson finished fourth in the NASCAR All-Star Race.
On May 26, Kyle is set to become the fifth person in history to drive the Indy 500 and NASCAR 600-mile race on the same day.
Dude. . . I think he`s already at the top - I don`t know. Is it possible to put him first? Like he`s the chosen one.
I would say [Verstappen and Larson] are on the same level. And this is quite serious, " Rossi said.
Alex also shared his thoughts on Larson`s potential Indy 500 win:
Wow, damn. This will make me so angry. I understand how others perceived my victory [in my debut season in 2016].
Is he capable of this? Yes. Will I be happy for the team? Yes. Will I feel irritated deep down? Yes.
Larson himself admitted that he would not have beaten Verstappen in a car familiar to the Red Bull leader:
Not in an F1 car! I can`t beat him in an F1 car. And I would bet that he would beat me in IndyCar - simply because of his experience on city and road courses. Hopefully I can beat him in the sprint car.
At the same time, Kyle said that he does not see any logic in comparing pilots competing in different categories:
I don`t understand why this is even the case. If you don`t compete in multiple disciplines, how can anyone say you`re the best?
